FAQ
An image-guided biopsy uses ultrasound or CT imaging to help the radiologist precisely guide a needle into the target area to collect tissue or fluid samples for testing.
Your doctor may request a biopsy to investigate a lump, lesion, or abnormal scan result, or to confirm or rule out infection, inflammation, or cancer.
Ultrasound-guided biopsies are used for areas visible on ultrasound (such as thyroid, breast, or soft tissues).
CT-guided biopsies are ideal for deep-seated organs or lungs, providing detailed cross-sectional imaging for precise needle placement.
Most biopsies are performed under local anaesthetic to numb the area. You may feel light pressure or mild discomfort, but the procedure is generally well tolerated.
Complications are uncommon but can include minor bleeding, bruising, or temporary soreness. Your radiologist will discuss any specific risks beforehand.
